Fort Bend County is located in southeast Texas, and is part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area. Spanning 875 square miles, Fort Bend County is the tenth largest county in Texas. According to the 2020 Census estimate, the county’s population is 775,770, making it the fifth most populous county in Texas.

The county was established in 1837 and named after a bend in the Brazos River, which runs through the county. Its county seat is Richmond, which is also the county’s largest city. Other cities in the county include Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Missouri City, and Stafford.

The economy of Fort Bend County is based on a diverse range of industries, including petrochemicals, information technology, financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. The county is home to two Fortune 500 companies: Fluor Corporation and Schlumberger Limited. Sugar Land Regional Airport is located in Fort Bend County and serves as a hub for corporate and private aviation.

Education is a major industry in the county, with 12 school districts and numerous private schools. The University of Houston Sugar Land, Houston Community College, and Wharton County Junior College all have campuses in Fort Bend County.

The county is home to a number of museums and historical sites, including George Ranch Historical Park, Fort Bend Museum, and The Heritage Museum of Fort Bend County.
